It’s not just about recruitment revenue!

Business revenue is an obsession for almost every Recruitment and Search Firm owner I’ve ever met… 

They all want to increase it 📈 and spend every moment of their working day thinking about how to do it 🤔… 

When asked how business is going, they always talk about revenue 💬. For almost all of them, “success” is defined by reaching a certain revenue figure 🏆…

However, they’re focusing on the wrong thing 🚫. Revenue looks impressive from the outside and feels good when you can report a nice big figure in response to the question, “How’s business?” But higher revenue doesn’t necessarily make a better business ⚠️…

I’ve met recruiters who have increased their revenue while simultaneously reducing the amount of money they can take out of the business 💸. I recently spoke to a recruitment business owner who was actually earning less than the consultants she employed 🤯. Why is that?

It’s like having a Ferrari at home in the garage 🚗 but not being able to afford the fuel you need to drive it ⛽. It looks good; it’s nice to know you have it, and your friends, colleagues, and family will be impressed and even envious when you tell them about it 😮. But it’s pointless!

So, what should you focus on instead? I’ll give you a clue: it begins with “P” and ends in “ROFITS” 💡…

You might have heard this saying before: “Revenue is vanity. Profit is sanity. Cash is reality…” 💬

I’ve met business owners with revenues of £300K who have bigger profits than businesses that turn over £1M+ 💷. They have smaller businesses, fewer clients, less turnover, less infrastructure, fewer staff, and fewer headaches—but at the end of the day, more take-home money for the owner 💰…

I’ve seen multimillion-pound businesses that look successful from the outside, with big offices, large teams, and high turnover, but they suffer from major cash flow issues because they’re not making a profit 📉…

Don’t get me wrong—it’s good to increase turnover, but only if that increase also leads to an increase in profits 📊. Most Recruitment and Search businesses have hidden profits they can immediately tap into with just a few minor tweaks to their operations 🔧…

Your business is no different, and you’re probably sitting on profits you didn’t even know were there! 💡💸

Commitment Issues 🤔💔

One topic that almost always comes up when speaking to Recruitment and Search Business Owners who want to join one of my programs is commitment… 🤝

It is almost impossible to achieve anything even slightly challenging without being 100% committed to it. Whether it’s building your perfect body 💪, running a marathon 🏃‍♂️, fostering a strong relationship with your kids 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, having a successful marriage 💍, or, of course, growing an outrageously successful Recruitment or Search Business 💼—all these endeavors require massive amounts of commitment…

Along the journey, you will inevitably face challenges and obstacles that make you question yourself and feel like giving up. And if you’re not committed, you will give up. I don’t think anyone would argue with that…

The thing about commitment is that it’s easy to pretend. People like to say they’re committed all the time. It sounds good! They like to say it to other people, and they like to say it to themselves. They might even actually believe they’re committed. But saying or even believing you’re committed means nothing…

Commitment is about what you actually do, what you do consistently, and what you do when the situation becomes difficult. It’s easy to behave in a committed way and take the right actions some of the time. It’s especially easy to behave in a committed way when things are going well… 👍

The real test of commitment comes when things start to go wrong—when you’re faced with a bigger obstacle 🚧, when you’re backed into a corner with no option but to either throw in the towel or keep fighting 🥊, when you’re asked to step outside your comfort zone and make difficult decisions, or when the opportunity to invest in yourself comes along, and you have the option to either turn and run or jump in headfirst… 🔥

That’s when real commitment comes into play…

And trust me, if I’m right about you and you have any real ambition of growing your Recruitment or Search Business to the level you’ve always dreamed of, you’re going to need real commitment… 💪
