Candidates

“I have no problem getting jobs. Its filling them! There’s a shortage of candidates at the moment.”

I hear the above or similar from (mostly contingency) Recruiters almost daily…

But most of the time “lack of candidates” is not the real problem… Two things to consider…

Firstly… If you’re winning jobs that you’re unable to fill… Do these vacancies remain unfilled, or do they actually just get filled by another recruiter in your niche?

If they get filled by another recruiter in your niche, then the problem isn’t “lack of candidates” …

You just weren’t able to find the right candidate fast enough. So, the real problem is either your skills as a recruiter or more likely, the conditions you’re working under… (Working with Hiring Managers who value speed over quality will always make things difficult for you)

Secondly… If these roles really do go unfilled and there really is a candidate shortage… It’s time to put your fees up!

Simple supply and demand… When the demand exceeds the supply, prices increase. So, the real problem is your fees are too low, you’re taking on more vacancies than you need to, and there simply aren’t enough candidates to fill all the roles you have…

Put your fees up, work on less vacancies (so you need less candidates), make more profit!
