3 things recruiters who want more clients can learn from Dexter

I caught an old rerun of Dexter on TV last night…


Great series if you’re into that kind of thing…


I won’t ruin it for you if you haven’t seen it, but it’s a show about a serial killer whose M.O is to hunt and kill other dangerous criminals…


 He’s kind of like a vigilante killer and only harms the worse of the worse who are likely to cause further harm to others… 


Anyway… As I was watching, I started thinking to myself… 


There’s lots Recruitment and Search Business Owners who want to win more clients could learn from his approach…


Here’s are the three main things I noticed… 

  1. He has a niche – As I said before, Dexter doesn’t just go out and kill random people… He’s very clear on exactly who his ideal targets are. And because he has a niche, he can get very clear on how they think, where they hang out, how they behave and critically how to find and influence them. This makes it easier for him as there are less variables. The same is true for your Recruitment or Search Business. The more narrow you can get on exactly who you serve the easier it will be for you to communicate to them and attract them into your business.
  2. He has standards – Having a niche is important but beyond that, you need standards. Dexter won’t just kill anyone in his niche, he’s selective about who he works with and doesn’t just go after the kill just because they meet the minimum criteria of being in his niche. He also has certain standards they need to meet. The same should be true for your business, just because a prospect is in your niche doesn’t mean they’re an ideal client.
  3. He follows a process – Dexter has a process that he follows for every kill. And he’s just as obsessed with the process as he is with the outcome. It’s a process that he can trust to ensure he gets the exact same result every time. Getting the job done whist also avoiding being caught. Recruitment and Search Business Owners should be the same, you need a process you can trust that consistently brings new high-value clients into your business.
