“How do I raise my fees with existing clients”

 

A question that I’ve been asked many times over the years by Recruitment and Search Business Owners is:

“How do I raise my fees with existing clients”

Well… The answer is simple, although probably not what you want to hear…

Ready?..

Here it is…

Next time an existing client comes to you with a job order and you discuss terms, rather than saying your current fee… You say your new higher fee instead…

Got it?

It’s true that there are perhaps better ways to say it than others…

And you can perhaps justify a fee increase with things like increased delivery costs etc…

But really all it comes down to is saying a higher fee, sticking to your guns and being prepared to walk away…

And the harsh truth is… If they really value your service as much as you do, they’ll pay it…

And if they don’t value your service, they won’t…

Last week sometime Netflix announced (not for the first time this year) that they’d be increasing the price of their subscription service…

Will they lose some customers?

Almost certainly…

There’s always a percentage of the market that buys based on price…

But do you really think the majority of users are going to cancel their subscription smack bang in the middle of “Breaking Bad”, “OITNB”, “Stranger Things”, “Narcos” or one of the other additive series?

Of course not… Because they value the service!

So they’ll lose the least profitable customers who don’t value their service as much as they do, and be left with the more profitable customers who do…

Leaving them with more money to invest into improving their service even further… AND replacing any customers they have lost…

Here’s the thing though… Most Recruitment and Search Business owners would never have the guts to do this because they’re scared they won’t be able to replace any customers they’ve lost…

They’re so scared they’ll never find replacements that they’d rather work for fees less than they believe their services are worth…
