Ignorant lies Recruiters tell (Let’s talk about Cold-Calling)

 

Let’s talk about Cold-Calling (again)…

It’s a subject that I’ve covered before, but will no doubt revisit because it’s always part of the dialogue for Recruiters…

(I’m talking specifically about cold calling to win business rather than calling candidates here)

And when it comes to Cold-Calling… There are two contrasting groups.

  1. The group that say “Cold-Calling is the ONLY way to grow your Recruitment or Search Business.”
  2. The group that say “Cold-Calling doesn’t work, and you should use any other medium for communicating with prospects rather than the phone.”

Both groups are lying…

Perhaps not deliberately…

But they spout off these opinions as if they’re facts… When in reality they’re nothing but ignorant statements about their own experiences and perhaps the businesses of a few colleagues…

The truth is…

There are Recruitment and Search Business Owners who have built outrageously profitable businesses using only cold-calling to do so, and although it’s not as easy as it once was, it still can work…

AND…

There are Recruitment and Search Business Owners who have built outrageously profitable businesses without cold-calling, and although this is less common, that number is increasing by the day…

That’s a fact… based on working with and speaking to thousands of Recruitment and Search Business Owners over the years and not just what I’ve seen in my own business…

And here’s what I’ve found…

Not using the phone for client attraction is a massive mistake (as is NOT using or at least testing any other medium)…

But there are two things to consider…. the medium (i.e the phone), and the method (i.e. how and what you use it for)

And when it comes to the phone, you have two choices…

You can use a method that gets you ignored,

Pisses off your prospects,

Makes you look like every other Recruiter,

And the majority of the time you don’t even get through to the decision-maker…

Or…

You can use a method that means you’re calling people who already know who you are, like you, trust you, are willing to take your call and who have a need for your services…

Both methods will grow your business… Just ones a lot faster, easier and more profitable…

It’s your choice…
