“It’s because of the lockdown”

A while ago, my friend Jeremy gave a presentation to some of my clients about the mindset of successful Recruitment and Search Business Owners…

I been fortunate enough to speak and work with thousands of them over the years…

And one thing that’s always interested me is what sets the top performers apart from the rest…

Why is it that you can have one Recruitment or Search Business Owner who builds the business of their dreams…

A business that gives them the financial security they need, the freedom they want and everything else that comes with success…

And it the same time, in the same market, offering pretty much the same service you can have another who struggles to achieve anything past mediocracy…

Even though they are in possession of the same skill set…

They have the same obstacles against them…

They are operating in the exact same financial climate…

Dealing with the same prospects…

And have the same knowledge…

It all comes down to the way they think…

This is highlighted even more during a crisis or in challenging times…

The way they think affects the way they behave and the way they behave will eventually affect their results….

One of the things Jeremy pointed out is that successful Recruitment and Search Firm Owners are at “cause” rather than “effect”…

People who are at “effect’ are full of excuses like “I didn’t have the time to do XYZ”

Reasons like “No one in my industry does it that way”

They pass blame like “It’s because of the lockdown we didn’t hit target”

They have complaints like “the government are stopping my business” rather than adapting their business to meet the demands of the new environment…

And we’re all at effect SOME of the time… Especially when things outside of our control have a direct and hard impact on our lives or businesses…

It’s all about how long you stay at ‘effect’ and asking yourself if staying in that state is serving you…

People who are at “cause” take responsibly for their own circumstances and so get better results…

Rather than making excuses, reasons, passing blame or complaining… People at cause look at themselves and think “what can I do about this”…

They take FULL responsibility which means they have the ability to choose how they respond! It gives them back control of their outcome rather than waiting for someone or something else to save them…
