The silent killer in your Recruitment/Search Business

A few nights ago I was reading a newspaper article about “silent killers”…

It was basically talking about different diseases that could be potentially life-threatening but show no real symptoms, so often by the time you realise you have the disease it’s too late…

Things like diabetes, high blood pressure, Coronary Artery Disease all depressing stuff…

They were sharing some pretty morbid stories about how these things can take hold of you from the inside, and you won’t even know it’s happening until it’s almost critical…

The problem with all these diseases is, they’re hard to spot without taking a deeper look at what’s going on beneath the surface…

And it got me thinking about most the Recruitment and Search Firm Owners I see in the market…

Most of them, even the seemingly more successful ones, have a big problem in their business and they won’t even realise it until it’s gone too far…

You see, success in business is about getting three core things…

  1. Service i.e. Can you get results for your clients (Most Recruitment and Search Firm Owners are great in this department and usually consider themselves above average if not exceptional recruiters)
  2. Sales – i.e. Can you convince your clients to buy from you (Most Recruitment and Search Firm Owners have room for improvement in this area, but in the main, if they can speak to enough of the right people they’ll do OK)
  3. Marketing – i.e. Do you meet/speak to enough of your ideal clients each and every month (Most Recruitment and Search Firm Owners fall well below where they could and should be in this department. Some speaking to as little as four new prospects a month)

The thing is, although most are falling short in their marketing. You can still do OK without it (at least for a short while) you can live off your network, past clients, referrals etc. and you can generate well into six figures…

The problem starts when your network starts to dry up, or your regular clients begin to freeze projects, bring in in-house recruiters or buy from elsewhere and all of a sudden you stop growing… Or worse, you begin to decline!

Not having an effective marketing system that brings in new enquiries from potential clients on autopilot is the silent killer of your business growth. And if you’re not speaking to enough NEW prospects right now, you need to fix it before it’s too late!

Right now, my clients who have the right process in place can expect to speak to between 15 and 20 new prospects (per consultant) every single month. And as you probably know, all things being equal, the more prospects you speak to who have a need for your service, the more sales you’ll make… And higher revenue and profits usually follow.
